the language lessons are amazing and people are lucky to get to have them for free.

kinda looks like your graphic artist just put a crane on a Hokusai’s work.
(gave me a great idea to put the Eiffel Tower over the Mona Lisa’s face though)

The new logo ….. mmmm interesting:

On one side it looks very Japanese, what is great,
but on the other hand it looks a bit croudy, and therefore, not so Japanese!.

Thank you very much for your Japanese lessons and keep on with your excellent work.

Greetings from Tenerife (Canary Islands) !.

D-san, funny you should say that! The Japan Patent Office (特許庁)seems to have the same hard-to-prove-in-a-court-of-law theory. Nice catch, we all got a real kick out of your post keep them coming. Our graphic guy is considering going back to the drawing board. We’ll keep you posted, as our next infringement won’t be so easy to spot.
Thank you for the complement and for listening and please keep the posts and comments coming!

Chanun-san, thanx for posting! I really like too! Please keep the posts coming!

Isshou-san Canary Islands! Sugoi!!!!! Your point on the logo was very well taken. The Japanese staff seemed to know exactly what you were talking about!! Seems like you understand Japanese people very well! Sugoi!
Thank you for listening and keep the posts and comments coming!

    Hi Peter,

I will give you my honest professional opinion.

    I don’t like it at all :(

To me, it does not look like a “logo” but instead a “blended graphic” probably best suited in a 760X120 header. Logo’s typically do NOT have background images as part of the design.

I think the use of “Papyrus” as your logo font is a good choice for your topic, but would much prefer to see it with a custom Japanese icon.

No offence intended. Just like to be honest :)

I like the logo. I understand what Lori is saying. Yes a logo is ment to be simple and mean something such as “Japanese Learning” by the use of graphics.

However, you also have to understand your audience. Most of the people downloading the Japanese101 podcasts are newbie’s. Their knowledge of Japan is basic. I think the logo gives a beginner a good feeling of what Japan is about - Rising sun (Nihon), crane, large wave and Kanji. It’s good.

    bimyou :???:
why not use a cropped version of the header photo for the website plus maybe a solid block on one side of the same burgundy with a clean simple font in white for the web address.
i think brand consistency is very important and the website design is clean smart and cool why not use the same design language as this?

You know, I think the JapanesePod101.com symbol might make very nice Album Art. I think that is what it was intended for. See, I assume you want something to show up on an iPod screen, or in the lower left corner of the iTumes app to identify your show. The above fills that desire.

As a logo, I think Lori is correct; it does not fit the normal mold for a logo. But, then, I don’t know if a simple logo would fill the need for album art…

Am I making any sense, here?
